Mercedes Benz 220 S Ponton Saloon, 1961

In difference to the convertibles and coupes of the Ponton series, the saloon cars had no veneered wood trim. The massiv birch wood parts where toned ("patinated") by a kind of colour particules which equalized the sometimes course and unequal grain structures of the massiv wood. The parts look very elegant at the end just because of their shape and finish.

Patinated wood trim has darker shades in general like the original MB patina colours "dark birchwood" and "middle nutbrown" . However, with the trim shown here, one of the former owners had sanded the parts down to the ground in order to achieve a very light colour. However, in the course of a ground-up restoration the new owner wanted the parts to be re-worked back to original MB colour.

Restoration work: about 45 hrs.
